By initiating new discussion about using debit cards to administer welfare benefits in the province, Ontario is merely attempting to follow the lead of the United States – and the world, for that matter.  In order to play catch-up, debit cards are slowly being marketed to the public as a suggested means for welfare recipients to retain their dignity while in receipt of Ontario Works benefits.
